Nobody knows for sure how it got started nor how it snowballed into such a large and successful fundraising event, but earlier in the year when deciding how to raise money for the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease, Neal Steele and Karl Brubaker – from the morning show on Xtra- 99.1 FM in Gloucester – decided to hold a croquet tournament. The tournament was titled I’m OK – You’re Croquet. Before long they sort of decided that it would be held at a local doctor’s waterfront property in the southern part of Gloucester County.
Dr. Muron’s wife learned of the event, and the fact that she would be hosting it and providing a homemade apple pie as part of the Grand Prize winning team’s gift package, while driving on her way to work. Despite the complete lack of organization and planning on the part of Neal and Karl, I’m OK – You’re Croquet went off without a hitch on a beautiful Saturday morning in September.
Almost two dozen teams of two were in attendance along with spectators, live music from Nate Sparks, food in abundance and even more fun and camaraderie than you could shake a croquet mallet at.
I was sure to stop by and take some photos of the fun. Dr. Muron’s place was the perfect location for the event and I can’t wait to join in the game play next year. After all, it is all for a good cause.
This was a family event and a good time was had by all! In addition, thanks to the folks from the local croquet group for their instruction and refereeing of the event. They kept everyone in line and in bounds, too!
I believe that croquet might grow into quite the sport of choice across the Middle Peninsula after this event! Even the little ones had a great time.
Who’s got style?
Live music from Nate Sparks!
Dreaming of a white Christmas…
A few more photos from the day…
Hope you can join in the fun next year!

If tapping a tiny ball into a hole is a genuine spot, why not a larger ball through a hoop?
I meant “sport” not “spot.” Stupid typo.
Wish I could have been there to join in the fun! I would’ve teamed up with Gator and we would have blown Neal and Karl out of the water!
NEXT YEAR……
